Katie Gutmann is a dance artist born and raised in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. She graduated from Indiana University of Pennsylvania (IUP) with a BA in Interdisciplinary Fine Arts—Dance Arts in 2018. While earning her undergraduate degree, Katie was a company member with IUP Dance Theater where she had opportunities to learn from and perform with several artists including Pascal Rioult (RIOULT Dance NY), Kun-Yang Lin, and Shana Simmons. Katie has since returned to IUP Dance Theater as a guest performer, choreographer, and co-director (2019-2021). Katie is currently pursuing her MFA in Dance from Texas Woman’s University, where she discovered a passion for screen dance. Her work has been selected for showing at COCO Dance Festival in Trinidad and for adjudication at the ACDA National Screendance Festival. Katie’s current research explores the integration and interaction of screen and stage dance, and the communicative capability of movement.
